Jabberwocky Construct and Draw

1. Read the poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll

2. Watch the video from James Gurney: How I Paint Dinosaurs.

3. Create 3 thumbnails based on the poem of what you think Jabberwocky looks like.  These are to be value studies, no color, no details, created in your sketchbook showing these different points of view: 1 worm's eye view, 1 bird's eye view, 1 street level (see below).  Creating more than three thumbnails is strongly recommended to achieve a composition that is beyond "good".

4. Choose 1 of your thumbnails and create a graphite drawing in your sketchbook, maintain a full range of values.

5. Once you are satisfied with your graphite drawing, begin your final full color art using the color medium of your choice.

6. Complete the artist's statement answering the following:

     1. How did you come up with your ideas?

     2. What was the process you took to create the final image?

     3. Describe the hardest part of this project.

     4. What would you change/improve from the entire project (there is always room for improvement)?

Work you are handing in:
